Snowshoeing

    WINTER WALKS

Nature in winter is calm but not inactive. Discover animal tracks and the beautiful winter landscapes.
From the village or at the top of the chairlifts, you can follow our marked winter circuits. Numerous snowshoeing circuits are available  in the Abondance valley and in our Swiss neighbours in Morgins. All are marked in a free topo-guide available at La Chapelle Tourist Office (Download here).

If you like peace and quiet, a pleasant walk on compacted snow is just what you need in a safe environment at the heart of the Abondance valley, alongside the cross-country skiing tracks.

Information panels (tracks, safety, etc.) are located at the departure of each itinerary.

“Window Across the Plain” is a walking route around the village perimeter and the plain, a huge unspoilt area waiting for you to discover.

Snowshoes are necessary for all circuits. You can rent or purchase them in sports shops in the village.

    ADVICE FOR PEDESTRIANS

Even if there are tracks in the snow; snowmobiles, or other, this does not mean it is a marked and safe path.

If you decide to leave the safety of the winter domain you do so at your own risk, and therefore you should respect certain safety advice:

    • Research your itinerary and its possible risks.
    • Take into account the weather forecast and snowpack conditions and possible avalanche risks.
    • Have clothing adapted for sports activities in the cold.
    • Proper avalanche safety equipment: ARVA, shovel and probe.
    • Leave information about your intended route at your accommodation and/or with friends or family.

Important: not all the pedestrian paths are accessible in the winter.

Even if snowshoes have improved, they are still not designed for walking up or across steep slopes, or on snow hardened by ice or wind.
